Israelis jailed for six months on passport fraud charge

Two Israeli men believed to be agents of the Israeli secret service Mossad have each been sentenced in the Auckland High Court to six months prison on passport fraud charges.

Lawyers for Uriel Zoshe Kelman, 30, and Eli Cara, 50, denied claims the men had any link to Mossad.

Today's sentencing took two and a half hours.

Both men were filmed in court but Kelman held his hand over his face the whole time. He kept his face covered when entering and leaving court on all previous occasions.

Both mean pleaded guilty ealier this month to charges of attempting to illegally gain a New Zealand passport.

They were arrested in March after they tried to collect a passport in the name of a wheelchair-bound cerebral palsy victim.

Two other men thought to be involved in the crime are still on the loose.

One has been named as Zev William Barkan, 36, but police do not know the identity of the fourth man.

The four men had been in and out of the country since November last year. Cara has travelled in and out 24 times since October 2000.

Cara, who had been staying at Auckland's President Plaza hotel since the Herald broke the spy scandal in April, turned up at court earlier this month wearing a dark suit, white shirt and blue tie. Kelman wore a balaclava to court to hide his face. A tall, slim man with freckles, short red hair and glasses in April, he had dramatically changed his appearance.

Department of Internal Affairs officer, Ian Tingey, became suspicious about a passport application made in the victim's name after a phone call from a well-spoken man who claimed to be the applicant and was seeking to speed up the process. The caller faxed through a travel itinerary and ticketing information to help the process. But Mr Tingey had noted the caller had what he thought was an underlying Canadian or American accent.

On March 19, Mr Tingey contacted the victim's father and was told the applicant could not be his son.

When Barkan applied for the passport, he used the victim's birth certificate which had been applied for using the victim's mother's name. She is no longer married to the victim's father and has lived in Britain for two years working with cerebral palsy victims. When Internal Affairs informed the police about their suspicions, a covert operation began. Detectives uncovered details of four people, their movements in and out of the country, where they stayed, cars they rented.

The police summary of facts lists the occupations of the three as unknown, but senior Government figures believe they are agents for Mossad, Israel's secret service.

Kelman and Cara claimed not to know each other or Barkan but police say inquiries reveal otherwise. There were calls made between cellphones found in the possession of Kelman and Cara, and keys to a car rented by Barkan were found in Kelman's possession. The defendants have claimed they met Barkan by chance and were merely good Samaritans helping someone. They initially denied knowing there was anything illegal in what they or Barkan did.

Soon after beginning inquiries, police learned that Cara, particularly, was a regular visitor to New Zealand, having travelled here 24 times between October 2000 and March 2004. He used two Israeli passports, the second a replacement. Cara claimed to be a travel agent and to operate a Sydney travel agency. But inquiries by the Herald indicate it does not exist - or if it does, it operates illegally.

Barkan appears to have come to New Zealand with the purpose of illegally obtaining a New Zealand passport using an assumed identity. He first came here, according to the police summary of facts, in November 2003, travelling on a United States passport which identified him as an Israeli. Later that month, Barkan visited a doctor's surgery in Lynfield, using the victim's name. On December 3, Barkan left the country. The next day Internal Affairs received an order for a birth certificate in the victim's name. This was processed and the certificate sent to the Auckland post office box number supplied.

Barkan, Cara and Kelman all travelled in and out of New Zealand during December, apparently working on the passport scam. In March, all three returned to New Zealand. On March 6, Barkan rented an inner-city apartment on a short-term agreement in St Paul St. Six days later he returned to the Lynfield doctor complaining of a minor ailment. Barkan told GP Keith Way to witness his passport application, telling him it was needed urgently as he was soon to marry in Australia. The doctor filled out the form.

On March 13 an urgent application for a passport was lodged with Internal Affairs in Wellington. With it was a genuine birth certificate and a passport-sized photograph of Barkan. Cara left New Zealand that day. Barkan left a week later.

The man whose identity was stolen by the Israeli men has permanent name suppression. His family has told the Herald that around November last year, Zev Barkan moved in about 300m down the road from where he was living. Mystery still surrounds how the spies selected their victim, who lives in care.

In addition to the prison sentences, Cara and Kelman were today ordered to pay $50,000 to the Cerebral Palsy Society of New Zealand. A police source told the Herald that officers were concerned the group might have used the scam to

.Excerpt from Antiwar,com....a more sinister aspect of this operation is underscored by reports that Barkan has been spotted in North Korea, attending a conference as an "Israeli security consultant." The New Zealand website Scoop cites "a senior NGO chief executive with Global-Protect All Children" who says:
"Barkan is there (In Pyongyang) negotiating details of an extensive contract for design and technical equipment to support (a security wall) project, including- but by no means limited to - Israeli produced motion sensors and night vision equipment. Barkan flew from Beijing to Pyongyang at the end of April. He was allegedly travelling on a Canadian passport issued in the name of Kevin Hunter, which had been reported stolen at the Canadian Consulate in the Southern Chinese city of Guangzhou in mid April."

New Zealand Prime Minister Helen Clark imposed diplomatic sanctions on Israel on Thursday, a short time after a New Zealand court sentenced two Israelis for attempting to unlawfully obtain a passport from that countryForeign Minister Silvan Shalom said in response that Israel would work to restore diplomatic relations with New Zealand.

Clark said Thursday "there were very strong reasons to believe" the two Israelis - Uriel Zosha Kelman, 31, and Elisha Cara, 50 - "were acting on behalf of Israel's intelligence services." The defendants had previously denied media reports that they were members of the Mossad.

Clark said in a statement Thursday that New Zealand was suspending high-level visits to and from Israel, requiring a visa application from any Israelis visiting New Zealand in an official government capacity, and delaying approval for appointment of the new Israeli ambassador to New Zealand.

Clark also said New Zealand was not interested in having President Moshe Katsav visit the country in August as part of his scheduled trip to Australia, and that the passport case has "seriously strained" New Zealand's relationship with Israel.

"New Zealand condemns without reservation these actions by agencies of the Israel government," Clark said in the statement. She said Israel was asked for an explanation and an apology three months ago, but has not provided either one.

"The Israeli agents attempted to demean the integrity of the New Zealand passport system and could have created considerable difficulties for New Zealanders presenting their passports overseas in future," Clark said.

 According to Tuesday's newspaper report, New Zealand intelligence services obtained concrete evidence that Cara and Kelman are Mossad agents by bugging their phones.

The two Israelis jailed for six months by a New Zealand court last week for trying to obtain a passport



by unlawful means have announced that they will appeal their sentence, Israel Radio reported Wednesday. Defense lawyer Grant Illingworth said they had lodged an appeal Tuesday against the conviction only, which relates to issues raised during legal arguments - which remain subject to court suppression orders. Earlier Wednesday, a newspaper in New Zealand said that one of the two men labeled by the Wellington government as Israeli spies worked for a firm that designs surveillance systems and listening devices. The information was contained in a letter from Uri Kelman's former employer that was given to the judge in the Auckland court who sent Kelman to jail, said the report in the Dominion Post newspaper. Kelman and another alleged Israeli spy, Eli Cara, had earlier admitted taking part in a criminal conspiracy to illegally obtain the passport. In the letter, Israel-based YTS Systems said Kelman had worked for the firm in Israel and overseas between 1999 and 2002.

YTS advertises anti-terrorism and high-tech surveillance services and says it has designed security systems for six embassies and for buildings in the United States, Germany and Africa.

After last Thursday's verdict, New Zealand Prime Minister Helen Clark
announced that the two had operated "on behalf of the intelligence
services of Israel," and proceeded to freeze all high-level contacts
with Israel.

Israeli Spies, Criminals operative in NZ

In Western Destiny # 35 we covered the cases of two suspected agents of Israel’s secret service, Mossad, involving passport fraud, and a separate case of Israeli Victor Chechelnitski, convicted of ‘people smuggling’, involving extensive passport fraud and connections with the Ukraine.

Based on the significance of the Ukraine as a centre of the Jewish ‘mafiya’ we conjectured that this – and possibly the Mossad agents – indicate the presence in NZ of the global Jewish crime syndicate.

A feature in the professional conservative magazine Investigate (July 04, “Godfatherzone, Organised crime comes to NZ) by the generally pro-Zionist veteran journalist Ian Wishart, has confirmed our assumptions.

But first to the passport fraud undertaken by the suspected Israeli spies.  

Uri Kelman and Eli Cara pled guilty to the charges and were sentenced to 6 months imprisonment. While the Prime Minster Helen Clark has taken a strong and forthright stand on the matter, demanding an explanation and apology from Israel, which as of writing has not been forthcoming, and downgrading diplomatic links, the sentencing leaves something to be desired. Chechelnitski got at least 18 months before being eligible for parole.

JEWISH MOB IN NZ 

As for the Jewish crime syndicate, Wishart’s investigation centres around the new brand of drugs entering NZ, in particular Ecstasy. As I have shown in my book The Kosher Connection, Israel is the centre of the world Ecstasy trade. Citing the police chief of Victoria, Australia, that “Russian [sic] Organised Crime” is now a major factor in Australia, Det. Sgt. Warren Olsson, head of the Organised Crime Unit at Police National HQ, Wellington, states there is no doubt “Russian” organised crime exists in NZ. Anybody who knows anything about the so-called Russian mafiya knows that it is not Russian, but is overwhelmingly Jewish, and that Israel serves as a safe haven for it.  

Olsson also states that there is a significant threat not only from Asian and West African criminals in NZ, but specifically from “Israeli based organised crime groups.” He states that there is now large scale organised Ecstasy smuggling, that NZ is looked on as a “viable market” and that “most of the people we’re encountering now are foreign nationals, and that’s indicative that there are transnational crime groups operating in NZ”.  

Wishart quotes Moment magazine as stating that Israelis became adept at global Ecstasy smuggling through the diamond smuggling network they have long established, according to Antwerp police. When the dealers first came into contact with Ecstasy they “successfully test marketed the drug in Israel” then used existing diamond smuggling routes. This was helped by Israel’s lax banking laws, making it easy to launder money, according to the report. A US law enforcement special agent is quoted as stating Israelis “are ideally suited for the global drug trade.” The Israelis were the first to realise the “criminal potential ” for the drug.

Wishart states that Israeli involvement is not confined to Ecstasy, but also involves Heroin, coming down from Afghanistan, through Turkey, Syria and Lebanon. En route the poppy increases in value until it reaches Israel for transporting to the USA and elsewhere.

A recent report by the US Drug Enforcement Agency states that the Israeli drug smugglers in Europe “often take advantage of their ethnic connections within the diamond trading community in an effort to avoid detection by law enforcement officials. The connections to the diamond industry also provide Israeli traffickers with a well-established infrastructure in which to operate.  

We would add that few would probably suspect the involvement of the Hasidim, the ultra-orthodox religious Jews with their Medieval appearance, who have been involved in diamond and drug smuggling. They are not constrained by the laws of the goyim. 

Wishart quotes Det. Sgt. Olsson as stating: “Israeli organisations dominate the drug trade.” He states that Israel is a major thorough-fare for “Russian Organised Crime, with criminals holding Israeli passports. “ Wishart states the reason for this is simple: “Many of the Russian criminals were Jewish émigrés to Israel and entitled to citizenship by virtue of their religious affiliation.”

We will add that Israel is not prone to deporting criminals, whether they are gangsters or Stalinist terror police, despite the great moral outcry they make when they are out to get some elderly veteran who fought against communism. West African crime cells have also become a major feature in organised crime in NZ recently, especially involved with fraud, drug smuggling and internet scams.

Jewish, African and Asian organised crime, with emphasis on drug smuggling is presumably one of the types of “cultural enrichment” for which we can thank our diverse immigration policy.

Jewish Criminals Sacrosanct  – Zwartz, Hide? 

One bizarre spin-off from the Prime Minister’s strong condemnation of Israel over the involvement of Cara and Kelman, and two other Israelis who have so far escaped capture, is the responses of Act Party leader Rodney Hide and David Zwartz, president of the NZ Jewish Council and a Wellington city councillor.

Within hours of the sentencing of Cara and Kelman, several headstones in the Jewish section of Wellington’s Karori cemetery were vandalised. The immediate response from Zwartz was to blame the Prime Minister, stating her strong criticism of Israel had encouraged the vandalism. Well, if that’s the case, in theory, Zwartz is entitled to make a complaint against Clark under the Race Relations Act for “exciting racial disharmony” (sic). He is stating clearly enough that Clark has instigated anti-Semitic grave desecration.

The response of the Act Party leader Rodney Hide was even stranger. Hide reportedly stated that Clark’s “anti-Israel statements are an embarrassment.”

Apparently these two think that Zionists should act with impunity in NZ, and not receive so much as a rebuke for criminal actions. Perhaps in keeping with the actions of Mossad elsewhere, these two believe that Mossad should be given the green light to assassinate NZ residents also, and little matter if the targets might be incorrect. After all, it’s God’s Chosen People we’re talking about here, and the world was made for them, and them alone, if we are to accept their Talmudic beliefs.

So what would Zwartz and Hide have had the Prime Minster do? Perhaps apologise to the Israelis for police interference in the sovereignty of Israel? Beg forgiveness for interfering in Israel’s divine mandate to do whatever the Zionist agenda requires?  

As an aside, it is passing strange that whenever some Jewish issue comes up and sympathy for Zionism is sagging, as it has long been in NZ, Jewish graves in Karori get vandalised. On one occasion the Israeli consul general Yaakov Morris contrived a way-out conspiracy theory that the vandalism had been caused by a joint effort of British veterans from the Palestine mandate, neo-nazis, British National Front expatriate, and anti-Zionist Leftists. And these folk have the chutzpah to call so-called “anti-Semites” paranoid!
