Uninformed people say, "We must stop the large influx of refugees even if we have to kill them to stop them from reaching our shores. If we don't they will soon take over our countries." These two are firmly linked. Has anyone in government said truthfully to the people, "No happy, content, and liberated people leave their homeland, families and houses risking life and limb to go and beg for a low paying job in a foreign place? Why do these people leave their homes and surge into so called developed countries? Because they are subjugated,
oppressed, poor, exploited, hungry or persecuted people
who aspire to a decent life for themselves and their
children in a relatively wealthier, supposedly free
land." Who is behind the many tyrants
subjugating and oppressing these poor desperate people? I think if we look truthfully and without bias at these questions we would come up with just a few answers: The UK, the US, and lately Australia and Canada. Europe was in the past just as guilty but it is making great strides in the opposite direction because they have realised some of their many mistakes. But there is still considerable room for them to improve. What is the US, Canada and Australia but land brutally snatched from the native inhabitants by the wealthy European countries of the past, and populated with colonists, immigrants and refugees of poor, and persecuted people of other lands. We all know how there came to be so many Africans in the US. So if we want fewer refugees, fewer people who hate us, and less 'terrorism' around the world we should stop our exploitation of the poor countries, compensate them for all our evils and help them to get on their feet, not by throwing some charity their way to ward off hunger but real help. If we the people believed in real justice that would be it. But justice wears no blindfold and her scales are badly out of balance. We should stop characterising
ourselves as 'civilised', 'democratic', 'cultured',
'righteous', and above other nations. If we want to act in God's name, then let it be as He taught us, with love, respect, and tolerance for our fellow human beings. We should all take a long, hard
look at ourselves and our ways, otherwise we will
continue to allow those that control our nations to wage
unjust wars in the name of democracy, really, to make
themselves and their mega rich friends even richer and
more powerful whilst creating a world that can only
become a much worse place for our children to inherit
from us. |
