BLACK HISTORY MONTH POEM

Here it is again, Black History Month...
That time of year when it becomes fashionable to express your Blackness...
Hurry, hurry, step right up! See the Negroes in African Garb...
Hear the words of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. invoked over and over... and over... and over
and over again...

"I have a dream... I have a dream... I have a dream."

See Black History Month being represented in such a way that poses absolutely no threat
to the White Supremacist Power Structure.

It appears that Black History Month was designed to keep us Negroes...
We are bombarded with non-threatening hero's...
How many times do we discuss Reparations...? Zero.
And do we condem America's Founding Fore Fathers...? Hell No.
It's called a Necessary Evil... It's called The Context of the Times.
Here we are in 2007 and they still won't apologize.
And they want me to be a Proud American???

For 28 days, we celibrate Black History...
You would think that in at least one of those days we would mention the fact that
We are not Truly Free.
American and Freedom do not have the same definition...
During Black History Month it seems that we are still afraid to mention...
Our present condition... Our current disposition...
And the White Man who put us in this condition.
All we seem to talk about are non-threatening Negroes and their inventions...
Please don't mis-understand my intentions...
See, we celibrate a "Black History Month" but we don't plan for a "Black Future"
